06/03/18 Seminar exploring how to create lasting entrepreneurial legacy in Donegal

Donegal County Council is set to host a high profile seminar on Thursday 15 March in An Grianan Hotel in Burt that will explore how best to create an entrepreneurial legacy from a number of major ongoing developments that are set to benefit Inishowen and Donegal.

Speaking this week, Seamus Neely Chief Executive of Donegal County Council said that he believes that Donegal has an opportunity to create an entrepreneurial legacy from major ongoing developments such as the 2018 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, Star Wars, The Wild Atlantic Way Initiative, the development of Malin Head, the North West Greenway network and the Clipper 2017-2018 Round the World Yacht Race.

Mr. Neely explains that “this seminar is being organised to provide those interested with an opportunity to explore how best we can maximise the potential of these world class events and developments for the benefit of the entire county.  It is about creating an entrepreneurial legacy that will have lasting benefits not only for the Inishowen peninsula but for county and indeed the entire North West region”.

The seminar will hear from a number of expert speakers who have an indepth knowledge in this area including Eddie McKeever who is heading a research team in Donegal and Derry looking at how a sense of place influences entrepreneurship, Mark Freel a Royal Bank of Canada Professor at the Telfer School of Management specialising in innovation, entrepreneurship and economic development, Jacqueline Jackson, an expert in Leadership Learning, Janie Ash, brand marketing strategist and Joan Crawford Team Manager for Failte Ireland working on the Wild Atlantic Way.

The event will explore what community enterprises, private businesses and public agencies can do to support the delivery of world-class products, services and visitor experiences under a consistent local brand, where consumers receive the same coherent message about Donegal at each point of contact.

“Donegal is on the cusp of a wave when it comes to these types of development and the potential that exists is huge” says Cathaoirleach Cllr Gerry McMonagle.    “This event is about reflecting on this and identifying what every key player can do to tap into the latent potential that exists.  It is about being creative and working together to seize the moment and make the most of the opportunities that are being presented to us”.

He added “we have worked hard over the last number of years to get to this point, we have a strong Donegal brand and we have been strategic in our approach and one of our most important attributes is our capacity to work collaboratively and to connect in a way that adds value and is enabling.  This seminar provides us with an opportunity to reach out to all those interested in building on these achievements and creating a sustainable legacy for the region.”

This seminar will take place on Thursday 15 March 2018 at 9am to 3pm in An Grianan Hotel, Burt.  Admission is free but booking is essential. Book your place at http://bit.ly/2o1PfiT .
